  • Mrs Hobby and Celebration Assembly

    Fri 11 Feb 2022

We said a sad goodbye to Mrs Hobby, and wish her all the best for the future and with the new addition to her family. We remembered some funny, inspiring and great memories and she’d a few tears of goodbye.

Meanwhile, between the tears, we also celebrated some excellent achievements in the Stars of the Week, Super Spellers and Well Done vouchers. We cheered the Smeeth Girls football team who reached the semifinals of the Ashford Utd tournament on Wednesday.

The Eagles won the SpellingShed and TT Rockstars battles this week. Meaning Mr Peall will enjoy his holiday.

The House Names have been retired, as the athletes they were named after have all retired. The new names as chosen by the Student Council and voted for by all the children within their houses were announced as:

  • Girls Football Tournament at Ashford Utd

    Wed 09 Feb 2022

The girls football team put on some excellent performances in front of Phoebe's Ash the Friendly Tree at Ashford Utd’s Homelands ground. The team spirit, improvement in game strategy and overall play was obvious on the day.

The group stage began with an unfortunate defeat, where we were definitely worthy of a draw. This was followed by a spirited victory with a wonder strike from Mollie and a masterclass of goalkeeping by Mercie. Meaning we finished second in the group and we had made the semifinals.

We played a great game against the eventual tournament winners, and created enough chances to give them a scare.

Overall, a brilliant performance girls. Well done.

  • Safer Internet Day Tuesday 8th January 2022

    Tue 08 Feb 2022

Please find below some information about Safer Internet Day from Kent Police which gives parents and carers advice on how to keep children safe whilst using digital technology:

Safer Internet Day is celebrated globally each year to promote the safe and positive use of digital technology for children and young people, and to inspire a national conversation about using technology responsibly, respectfully, critically, and creatively.

In support of this campaign we would like to share with you a few resources which cover interactive quizzes covering ages 6 to 14 plus. The quizzes are a great way for children, parents and carers to engage together and assist in those conversations around online use and use the “golden rules” sheet as well as the tips below to further aid that conversation.

You can support this campaign by sharing safety advice with friends and family.

    Have conversations without judgement.

Whether by playing games, watching videos, or doing things your child enjoys, spending time together online is a great way to start conversations about the online world and how they’re finding being a part of it. It is important to ask questions and take an interest in what your child enjoys online.

An essential part of having this open dialogue is to not judge, even if their behaviour or life online isn’t what you wanted or expected. This ensures that your child feels they can come to you if ever they make a mistake or experience a problem online.

Knowing where you can learn more about their favourite apps and games.

Websites like Common Sense Media or The Family Gaming Database can be invaluable sources of information. When your child starts talking about a new game or app, why not do some research into the reporting and blocking options available? Then you can help your child if they come to you with an issue.  Also learn more about parental controls Parental Controls & Privacy Settings Guides - Internet Matters

Getting support if things go wrong.

There are lots of organisations who are there to support you and your family if something has gone wrong. The Report Harmful Content website can help you with issues such as cyberbullying, impersonation and threats. You can report worrying behaviour towards children to CEOP. Find out more on Childnet’s Get Help page.

Reassuring your child that whatever happens online, you are there to support them.

Let your child know that the best way to address any problem they have online, is to tell a trusted adult immediately. For example, this might include someone sending them a friend request; an online message; telling them to visit a specific website, or app; or asking them for their personal information. Reassure them that if anything happens online that they are unsure about, or makes them feel worried or upset, they can come to you for help.

The resources and quizes associated with this information can be found on our 'E-Safety' section of the website.

We were all very excited to see Phoebe’s Ashford Utd mascot make its first public appearance when it was unveiled at Smeeth with the designer, Phoebe, taking centre stage.

See more of Ash whenever you attend an Ashford Utd FC match at Homelands.

We also had lots of celebrating to do for the Stars and Spellers of the week, alongside Well Done voucher winners.

This week, Woodpeckers retained their SpellingShed crown, whilst Eagles won the TT Rockstars trophy.
