Smeeth Community Primary School

ECO Club

Our Eco Club is run by Mrs Quinn, who meets with our Eco Club children once a week to discuss ways of keeping our school as considerate of our environment as we possibly can be. The children make suggestions, discuss ways of improving our carbon footprint and participate in projects, for example the planting of trees on school grounds, keeping our vegetable patch and pond areas clean and healthy.

Our most recent project was the decorating of one of our trees in honor of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee this year. We had a visit from the Mayor of Ashford, who subsequently awarded our school with the Environmental Action Civic Award.

Well done Eco Club! You are ambassadors for our school and the environment as a whole and we are very proud of the work you do.

Our recent work with Sustrans

The Smeeth Eco Club has been so lucky to have had Stuart from Sustrans come and visit for a number of sessions this term. Here is a little bit more about Stuart and the work he did with our children.

Sustrans is a sustainable transport charity who make it easier for people to walk and cycle. The work Sustrans do creates healthier places and happier people. They are custodians of the National Cycle Network and work to ensure the benefits of walking and cycling are enjoyed by everyone.

Stuart has been an Officer at Sustrans for the past 2 years working on projects across the South East of England. You will see him doing anything from auditing the National Cycle Network to community engagement and from conducting focus groups to led bike rides at schools. It’s the variety of work and the passion for the environment that drives him on.

From all of us at Smeeth, thank you for all your time Stuart and for sharing your expertise with us.
