Smeeth Community Primary School

Who is Who

Managing Director. Early Years Practitioner.

Liam McCarthy

I started my career at Rising Fives as a student, over a decade ago under the mentorship of Mary Calver.  In that time, I attained my Level 3 Childcare, Learning and Development qualification along with a Level 3 Forest School Leadership qualification and have countless happy memories of all the children and the families I have worked with. Following Mary Calver’s retirement in 2021, I created Rising Fives LTD and have the pleasure of continuing to provide a valued service to the Families of the local community and beyond.

I am very passionate about the Early Years and outdoor learning; I strongly believe children should be connecting with the natural world, engaging with the environment and taking the first steps in managing risk for themselves.

In my free time I enjoy (you guessed it) being outdoors, walking my two dogs and fishing the local lakes and rivers.

I am married with two children, both of which loved the Rising Fives experience. I have worked in the nursery since 2008 and hold a level 3 qualification in Childcare, Learning and Development. I’m the nursery SENCO and am passionate about helping all children to reach their potential.

Early Years Practitioner. QTS

Hephzibah Edwards

As a qualified Teacher with a BA Hons in Primary Education, my career began at Smeeth School where I taught for many years before taking some time out to start my family.  When my children were both at school, I went back into an education setting at Stowting School and also started down the path of     Book-keeping with my Father’s company before being provided with the opportunity to be with the Rising Fives team.

My two children both enjoyed and flourished with the unique experience that Rising Fives offers.  The Nursery has always had a ‘family feel’ and this was a huge attraction.

When spending time with my family, we enjoy walks along the beach, playing board games, baking delicious things and getting covered in glitter during art and craft creations!

I feel honoured to be part of Rising Fives and will aim to use my teaching experience to work alongside the terrific team to ensure the children continue to blossom, make memories and be the best version of themselves possible during these important early years.
